Advancing health literacy and equity advocacy campaign

PHARMACY IN ACTION: ADVANCING HEALTH LITERACY AND EQUITY WORLDWIDE – A FIP ADVOCACY SERIES

Overview

Pharmacy in Action: Health Literacy and Equity Worldwide – A FIP Advocacy Campaign is a six-part global digital series showcasing how pharmacists advance health literacy and equity in healthcare. Building on FIP’s insight report ‘How pharmacists worldwide are strengthening health literacy and empowering patients’ the campaign highlights innovative strategies that enhance public understanding of health, medicines, and disease prevention, while addressing systemic barriers that limit pharmacists’ impact.

The Initiative turns evidence into advocacy and action: empowering pharmacists to bridge communication gaps, improve access to care, and ensure that no one is left behind. By connecting practice, policy, and education across all six WHO regions, Pharmacy in Action advances health literacy as a key pathway toward equity, empowerment, and Universal Health Coverage, aligned with FIP Development Goal 10 (Equity and Equality).

Campaign objectives

  • Translate global evidence into advocacy and practical action within pharmacy practice.
  • Identify barriers and opportunities to strengthen pharmacists’ roles in equitable healthcare.
  • Provide tools, examples, and strategies to support the development of health literacy in pharmacy.
